Annatto Colour is extracted from the seeds of a plant called Bixa Orellana, which gives two pigments – Bixin which is oil soluble and Nor-Bixin which is soluble in water.
Traditionally, Annatto Bixin, being Oil soluble, has been used in margarines, butter, cream fillings for biscuits, low fat spreads and other fat based products.
Whereas, Nor-Bixin has been used in cheese colouration, but gradually a much wider variety of applications was developed in different products including breadcrumbs, flour confectionery and Dairy Products.
Nor-Bixin Annatto Colour is also available in Powder form which offers a great versatility in application to its users. Annatto Powder can be used in all powdered applications like Seasonings, Soups and Savories.
